Q1 Week 2 Terms

By the end of the week you should have an understanding of the following terms.  You will find the definitions in the notes, power points, and videos on the blog. I've given you the first. We will review terms next week.

-Photography: Latin for Light Drawing
-Camera Obscura:
-Contact Print:
-Photogram:
-Pinhole Camera:
-Wet Collodion:
-Emulsion:
-Latent Image:
-Silver Gelatin:

-Orthochromatic:
-Tray Processing:

Photogram / Lab #1

Photogram: is a recording of light onto an emulsion (light sensitive material). By using objects placed onto the emulsion, one can block the surface from light, thus exposing only the open areas.

Assignment:  Collect 3-5 small personal artifacts from home that would create an interesting graphic representation of who you are.  Solid objects look good, but objects that are transparent, translucent, and/or reflect light can also produce interesting results.  The objects should fit onto a 5"x7" piece of photo paper. Contemplate not only the objects, but also the arrangement of the objects for your photogram. In the darkroom, you will create a light recording of the objects when they are placed on the photo paper and processed.

Assessment:  This is a basic check of knowledge lab.  Successful demonstration of photograms and tray processing will award full points.
